Some of these stories empower us, while others quietly confine us, shaping our choices, our courage, and even our faith. Before the prodigal son ever packed his bags and left his father’s house, he had already made up his mind—and that decision was driven by a story he told himself. A story about freedom. About fulfillment. About life being better somewhere else. It wasn’t a true picture of his reality, but it was convincing enough to cost him everything.
And then, somewhere in the middle of the brokenness, another story emerged. A different one. This time, it was a story filled with humility, hope, and the possibility of grace—and that story led him home.
The truth is, we are all living out the stories we tell ourselves. Those stories can quietly pull us away from God and wreak havoc in our lives, or they can awaken us to God’s love and point us toward redemption.
