S07E05: The Stories That We Tell Ourselves - Pt 5
Host: Rev. Dr. Charles Zuta
Welcome to today's episode. Have you ever noticed how much the stories you tell yourself shape the way you live? The way you talk to yourself about your past, your abilities, or even your calling can quietly determine how you show up in life. Some of those stories push us forward—but others keep us stuck.
In today’s episode, I want us to look at this idea through two familiar biblical characters: Gideon and King David. Gideon’s story is one many of us can relate to. He saw himself as weak, insignificant, and unqualified—even while God was calling him a mighty warrior. There was a big gap between who Gideon believed he was and who God said he was, and stepping into his purpose meant rewriting that inner narrative.
David, on the other hand, did something different. When he faced fear, opposition, or uncertainty, Scripture tells us he encouraged himself in the Lord. David reminded himself—again and again—of God’s faithfulness, power, and goodness. Those reminders shaped how he saw himself and how he faced his battles.
So today, we’re going to reflect on the stories we tell ourselves. Are they grounded in fear and limitation, or in the truth of who God is and what He can do? Because when our inner narrative lines up with God’s truth, we become far more ready to be used by Him.
